A gentle drive in the countryside? Not likely. The legendary Land Rover Defender may be based on a trusted 50 year old design, but off road there’s still nothing to touch it, which is just as well because only the best car and driver combination stands a chance of conquering the course we have created for it.

At first you’ll think you’d need a rope ladder to overcome some of our obstacles, but if you put your faith in our Defenders and listen to your instructor soon you’ll be scrabbling your way up slopes so steep all you’ll see through the windscreen is sky, before plunging down the other side convinced you’re going to nosedive into the ground. You’ll slither through mud, wade through rivers of water and emerge the other side lost in admiration for the great British institution we’ve put at your disposal.
